27/12/2025

Continuing a series of activities commemorating Vietnamese Cultural Heritage Day – a meaningful occasion to honor the nation’s historical and traditional cultural values – and in celebration of the 14th National Congress of the Communist Party of Vietnam, on the morning of December 23, 2025, at the Central Sector of the Imperial Citadel of Thang Long, the Department of Cultural Heritage, in coordination with the Thang Long – Hanoi Heritage Conservation Center and related units, officially opened the exhibition titled “Vietnamese Cultural Heritage – Vitality from Tradition to Modernity.”

Attending the opening ceremony were Mr. Hoang Dao Cuong, Deputy Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism; Ms. Le Thi Thu Hien, Director General of the Department of Cultural Heritage; experts and scholars; representatives of coordinating organizations; leaders of provincial Departments of Culture, Sports and Tourism and Departments of Culture and Sports; representatives of museums within Vietnam’s museum system; heritage site management boards nationwide; representatives of press and media agencies; and members of the public.

Featuring nearly 200 representative images and artifacts, the exhibition provides an overview of Vietnamese cultural heritage and the process of protecting and promoting heritage values in Vietnam. In addition to an introductory section, the exhibition is structured around four main themes:

  • Theme 1: Legal framework and policies for the protection of cultural heritage.
  • Theme 2: Vietnamese cultural heritage sites recognized and inscribed by UNESCO.
  • Theme 3: Vietnamese cultural heritage – diversity and uniqueness.
  • Theme 4: Cultural heritage for sustainable development.

The exhibition vividly and intuitively presents to the public representative images of Vietnamese cultural heritage, as well as the efforts undertaken by the Party, the State, and the people of Vietnam over many years to protect and promote the value of cultural heritage.

Through this exhibition, opportunities are created for generations of Vietnamese people to take greater pride in a nation rich in historical and cultural traditions. Over centuries of nation-building and defense, successive generations have created, preserved, and promoted an exceptionally rich, diverse, and unique cultural heritage – from historical and cultural relics, scenic landscapes, festivals, and traditional crafts to performing arts, folk knowledge, beliefs, and customs. This heritage is uniquely Vietnam’s own, and at the same time, a valuable contribution to the cultural heritage of humanity.

In his welcoming remarks at the opening ceremony, Deputy Minister Hoang Dao Cuong highly appreciated the significance of the exhibition and assigned the Department of Cultural Heritage, in coordination with specialized agencies, to continue promoting the exhibition in a sustainable and long-term manner through the following tasks:

  • Further exploiting, updating, and refining the exhibition content to ensure timely reflection of new achievements in the protection and promotion of cultural heritage values, especially newly recognized and inscribed heritage at national and international levels;
  • Linking the exhibition with research, education, transmission of knowledge, and enhancement of community awareness, particularly among younger generations;
  • Closely integrating heritage conservation with the development of cultural tourism and the creative economy, ensuring the principle of safeguarding the authenticity of heritage, promoting the central role of communities, and aiming toward sustainable development;
  • Strengthening international cooperation to enhance capacity in the management, protection, and promotion of Vietnamese cultural heritage in the context of deepening global integration.

The exhibition is scheduled to remain open until January 15, 2026.
