The Imperial Citadel of Thang Long Offers Free Admission on Vietnam Cultural Heritage Day

26/11/2025

In celebration of Vietnam Cultural Heritage Day (23 November) – an occasion honoring the nation’s invaluable historical and cultural treasures – the Thăng Long Imperial Citadel is pleased to announce free admission for all visitors on 23 November.

This initiative aims to raise public awareness about heritage preservation and promotion, while implementing the Resolution of the People’s Council on creating opportunities for citizens to access, explore, and appreciate the country’s rich heritage.

Originating from the historical significance of Decree No. 65/SL dated 24 February 2005, the Prime Minister issued Decision No. 36/2005/QĐ-TTg, designating 23 November as Vietnam Cultural Heritage Day. Since then, 23 November has become a traditional day for the cultural heritage sector – an occasion for all those working in or dedicated to heritage preservation to come together in celebration.

Each year, from central to local levels, a wide range of activities is held to promote cultural heritage, strengthen patriotism and national pride, and foster a sense of responsibility across society in safeguarding cultural heritage.

To date, Vietnam has classified over 10,000 provincial-level relics, 3,621 national relics, and 130 special national relics, out of more than 40,000 documented sites. Approximately 7,000 intangible cultural heritage elements have been inventoried, with 534 officially inscribed on the National Intangible Cultural Heritage List.

Many of Vietnam’s cultural treasures have also been inscribed by UNESCO, including 9 World Cultural and Natural Heritage sites, 15 Intangible Cultural Heritage elements, and 9 documentary heritage items – comprising 3 World Documentary Heritage inscriptions and 6 inscriptions in the Asia-Pacific region.
