International scientific conference “Promoting the value of world cultural and natural heritage in sustainable development in Vietnam”

On the afternoon of March 24, 2023 at the Government Guest House, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Vietnam National Committee for UNESCO cooperated with the People’s Committee of Hanoi to organize the “International Workshop on “Promoting the value of cultural and natural heritage”. world nature in sustainable development in Vietnam”.
Participating in the workshop were Mr. Ha Kim Ngoc – Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, Chairman of the Vietnam National Committee for UNESCO; Mr. Hoang Dao Cuong – Deputy Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism, Vice Chairman of Vietnam National Committee for UNESCO; Mr. Ha Minh Hai – Vice Chairman of Hanoi People’s Committee and Mr. Lazare Eloundou Assomo – Director of World Heritage Center. The workshop was attended by leaders of central ministries, People’s Committees of localities owning heritage and Heads of UNESCO Office in Hanoi, World Heritage Management Boards in Vietnam, experts, scientists. study in the fields of History, Archeology, Conservation, Museum, Heritage… and community representation. With the goal of assessing the overall conservation and promotion of the world’s cultural and natural heritage values in Vietnam, affirming the heritage’s contribution to the country’s sustainable development strategy in general and Socio-economic development of the locality in particular, with 02 themes: Promoting the role of World Cultural and Natural Heritage in Vietnam’s sustainable development and Promoting heritage values - practice and experience.
Director of the World Heritage Center Lazare Eloundou Assomo affirmed that the conference is a meeting place and exchange between national and world heritage management agencies. The conservation and promotion of heritage values need to integrate many solutions, including the preservation of tangible and intangible values. Because in conservation work, the harmony between traditional values and contemporary issues must be taken into account. Without a holistic vision, legacies will only be extensions of the past. In addition, he also answered a number of questions raised by the delegates, gave professional advice, procedures, instructions on how to remove difficulties and shared some international experiences.
On March 25, Mr. Lazare Eloundou Assomo – Director of the World Heritage Center spent a day visiting and working at the Imperial Citadel of Thang Long – Hanoi.
