Legendary General – Vo Nguyen Giap

General Vo Nguyen Giap (August 25, 1911 – October 4, 2013) was a close and excellent student of President Ho Chi Minh; The eldest brother of the Vietnam People’s Army.
On the occasion of the 110th birthday of General Vo Nguyen Giap (August 25, 1911 – August 25, 2021), Thang Long Heritage Conservation Center – Hanoi organizes an online exhibition “General Vo Nguyen Giap”. – Legendary General”, in order to review the heroic revolutionary tradition of the Vietnam People’s Army associated with the legendary general. The exhibition also wishes to highlight the imprint of General Vo Nguyen Giap at House D67, a revolutionary relic associated with the activities of the Politburo and the Central Military Commission during the anti-American resistance war.
General Vo Nguyen Giap’s military career began in 1944, with the establishment of the Vietnam Propaganda and Liberation Army Team. From the first 34 soldiers “from the people”, that army, under the leadership of the Party, Leader Ho Chi Minh and Commander-in-Chief Vo Nguyen Giap spent years “fighting in siege”. of the enemy; mature through each battle, each campaign; and defeated the French colonialists with the Dien Bien Phu victory “splendid in five continents, shaking the world”.
After the Geneva Agreement, with the top leadership of the Party, President Ho Chi Minh and the Politburo, at the General Headquarters, General Vo Nguyen Giap continued to direct the Commanders of the fronts and the entire army, each steps to defeat the political and military plots of the US and the government of the Republic of Vietnam; contributed to the successful implementation of the liberation of the South and reunification of the country.
British military historian Peter Macdonald wrote: “From 1944 – 1975, Vo Nguyen Giap’s life was associated with battle and victory, making him one of the great marshals of all time. . With 30 years as Commander-in-Chief and nearly 50 years in politics at the highest levels, he proved to be a man of extraordinary qualities in all areas of war. Hardly any general could compare with him in combining guerrilla warfare with regular warfare. That combination was unprecedented.”
However, in the mind of the Commander-in-Chief, “The People’s Army of Vietnam in both the North and the South, as President Ho Chi Minh said, is a heroic army of a heroic nation… No matter how meritorious a general is, he is just a drop of water in the sea, only the Vietnamese people can defeat the US. You call me a mythical general, but I consider myself equal to my soldiers.”
Online exhibition to pay tribute to General Vo Nguyen Giap’s great contributions to the cause of national liberation; contributed to portraying the portrait of a steadfast revolutionary soldier, an excellent and close disciple of President Ho Chi Minh and the eldest brother of the Vietnam People’s Army. All his life, he used President Ho Chi Minh’s saying “Do your best to work” as a guide for all actions. “I live every day for the country that day,” he affirmed.
The exhibition introduces 200 documents and images including 3 topics:

– The legacy of General Vo Nguyen Giap
The exhibition highlights the imprint and role of General Vo Nguyen Giap at the Vietnam People’s Army Headquarters (House and Tunnel D67) from 1968 – 1975. During this period, on the basis of the direction and consensus of the Party, Politburo, as Secretary of the Central Military Commission, Minister of National Defense, Commander-in-Chief of the Vietnam People’s Army, General Vo Nguyen Giap regularly monitors changes, developments of the battlefield in the South and gave directions and orders, contributing to the victories that changed the battlefield situation, to the final victory, liberating the South and reunifying the country.
