Hanoi Days in Ho Chi Minh City

Within the framework of the program “Hanoi Days in Ho Chi Minh City” on the occasion of the 70th anniversary of the Liberation of the Capital (October 10, 1954 – October 10, 2024), the Center for Conservation of Thang Long – Hanoi Heritage and the Center for Cultural and Scientific Activities of the Temple of Literature – Quoc Tu Giam organized the thematic exhibition “Imperial Citadel of Thang Long – Hanoi, heritage for the future” and the exhibition “Temple of Literature – Quoc Tu Giam, the quintessence of Vietnamese philosophy” at the Ho Chi Minh City Museum. The exhibition aims to introduce to visitors in Ho Chi Minh City the unique cultural values ​​of the thousand-year-old capital of Hanoi. The World Cultural Heritage of the Central Area of ​​the Imperial Citadel of Thang Long – Hanoi and the Special National Relic of the Temple of Literature – Quoc Tu Giam are the two most important relics, typical representatives in the thousand-year-old historical flow of Thang Long – Hanoi.

  1. The exhibition “Thang Long – Hanoi Imperial Citadel, a heritage for the future” introduces 150 documents, images, and artifacts, including the following topics:
    Topic 1: Thang Long – Hanoi Imperial Citadel, a heritage of humanity: Introducing the important milestone of the heritage site becoming a world heritage site in 2010 and the outstanding global values ​​recognized by UNESCO.The Central Area of ​​Thang Long – Hanoi Imperial Citadel meets 3 criteria of outstanding global values, including criteria (ii), criteria (iii) and criteria (vi), reflected in the historical length of a center of power throughout more than a thousand years, in cultural exchanges with countries around the world.

    Topic 2: Thang Long Imperial Citadel – Hanoi, a thousand-year heritage: Introducing the system of typical relics and artifacts of Thang Long Imperial Citadel spanning over 1000 years of history such as Ky Dai, Doan Mon, Dien Kinh Thien, Hau Lau… in which the collection of dragon and phoenix artifacts is highlighted.

    The topic focuses on introducing the meaning and value of the dragon and phoenix images expressed through archaeological artifacts, architectural materials and royal household utensils through the Ly, Tran, Le So, Mac, Le Trung Hung dynasties at the Thang Long Imperial Citadel Heritage Site. In particular, the exhibition introduces artifacts/groups of artifacts depicting dragon images that have been recognized by the Vietnamese Government as National Treasures.

    These are material traces that demonstrate the heroic history of Thang Long – Hanoi and are the core values ​​that make up the historical depth of the thousand-year-old heritage site.

    Theme 3: Thang Long Imperial Citadel – Hanoi, heritage for the future: Respecting the past and looking towards the future, the development orientation of Thang Long Imperial Citadel is a close combination of the goal of preserving thousand-year-old values ​​and transferring heritage to future generations in accordance with the spirit of the World Heritage Convention. The theme focuses on introducing to visitors new research results at the heritage site. In particular, through the application of information technology, based on initial research results, the Center has gradually restored the space of Kinh Thien Palace during the Le Dynasty and the Le Dynasty’s Chinh Dan Ceremony, contributing to gradually restoring the space and appearance of the ancient Thang Long Imperial Citadel.

    The exhibition also explains and highlights some typical artifacts through the application of 3D technology and QR Code, giving visitors a more complete understanding of the world heritage of Thang Long Imperial Citadel.

    The exhibition “Van Mieu-Quoc Tu Giam, the quintessence of Vietnamese philosophy” introduces the process of formation and development of Van Mieu – Quoc Tu Giam and the learning journey of a Confucian scholar under the ancient education system from the time he first learned the first letters to when he passed the imperial examinations and brought his talent to serve the country. Selected from thousands of scientific documents and pictures, the exhibition content is typical and expressed in a rich form, with high aesthetic value. In particular, the exhibition brings new and attractive experiences to visitors when combining traditional exhibition forms harmoniously with modern technological solutions such as 3D mapping projection, virtual reality technology, AI artificial intelligence…

    Through the exhibition, the tradition of studiousness, the spirit of respecting teachers and valuing talents of the nation as well as cultural celebrities who have devoted their efforts to serving the country are once again honored and left an impression in the hearts of the public, contributing to inspiring and inspiring the creative enthusiasm for building for today’s young generation. The exhibition is also an opportunity to promote and honor the cultural heritage values ​​of Thang Long – Hanoi in general and the Temple of Literature – Quoc Tu Giam relic in particular to the public across the country.

    The exhibition activities are open to visitors from August 23, 2024 at Ho Chi Minh City Museum, 65 Ly Tu Trong, District 1, Ho Chi Minh City.
