The citadel is solidly built of stone and brick, the foot of the embankment is stone, the gate is arched with bricks in the arrangement of a horizontal brick interspersed with a vertical brick. The edge of the embankment is rectangular in shape, with the upper fringe of stone decorated with lotus flowers. Two wooden gates run on bronze wheels. Prominent outside above the gate is the Chinese inscription “Chinh Bac Mon”.

Cua Bac relic is also a place associated with the names of two Governor-Generals Nguyen Tri Phuong and Hoang Dieu in the war to protect Hanoi Citadel in 1873 and 1882. Currently, on the surface of Cua Bac citadel, there are still two cannon marks 80cm deep, shot by French gunboats on April 25, 1882. After stabilizing Tonkin, the French destroyed the Citadel of Hanoi but kept Bac Mon to warn those who intended to oppose the French.

Today, this place is a tourist attraction from four directions with a peaceful and spacious space. On the gazebo of this relic is the place to worship two glorious Governor Generals – Nguyen Tri Phuong and Hoang Dieu who died when the Hanoi citadel fell into French hands.
