Get closer to history with the Vietnamese costume Imperial Citadel of Thang Long

Traditional national costumes, Vietnamese antiques are increasingly popular and loved by young people. The experience of traveling through the air at the Imperial Citadel of Thang Long becomes more and more interesting when the appearance of traditional clothes mixed with harmonious colors.

Ao tac

As a typical costume of the Nguyen Dynasty, the ao dai is the common name for the wide-sleeve five-body shirt. Some other names for this type of shirt such as vestments, robes, loose robes, etc. The tunic is for both men and women, for all social classes regardless of caste or luxury. The difference is mainly shown in materials, colors, decorative patterns and accessories. Ao Tac comes with a head scarf or baccalaureate hat for men, phoenix hat, scarf for women and white, wide pants.

Giao linh

Ao dai appeared from the seventeenth to eighteenth centuries, is the forerunner of today’s Vietnamese ao dai with a wide sewn design, slits on both sides, wide wrists, and a long body dotted with heels. This is a criss-cross collar style that is similar to a four-piece shirt.

Ngu than tay chen

The sleeves are sewn more compactly than the sleeves of “ao tac”, so it’s called double sleeves. The Five Body Ao Dai was a popular costume in the early 20th century. It’s called the five-body shirt because this shirt is assembled with  5 flaps,  including two front flaps, and 2 back flaps facing each other in front of the chest and back, flaps. The 5th in the front is on the right, in the first body. Women’s and men’s five-piece ao dai are quite similar, with only a few differences, such as  women’s collars are lower than men’s, women’s sleeves are narrower than men’s sleeves,  and men’s lapels are longer than women’s.

Nhat Binh

Appearing from the Nguyen Dynasty, Nhat Binh was the common dress of the Empress Dowager, the Empress, the Princess and the noble court dress of concubines and mandarins on important occasions in the court. Initially, Nhat Binh shirt was only used in the royal court under the Nguyen Dynasty. In 1945, the August Revolution was successful, King Bao Dai abdicated, Nhat Binh shirt gradually became popular among the people.

Today, Nhat Binh shirt is often used in holidays, New Year or commemorative events with historical elements. Many young people also love this type of costume.
