The old Thang Long Dragon Boat Festival reappears at the Imperial Citadel of Thang Long

On the occasion of the Doan Ngo New Year in 2023, on the morning of June 21, the Thang Long Heritage Conservation Center – Hanoi solemnly held the opening ceremony of the program “Old Thang Long Dragon Festival”.

The ceremony featured the presence of Assoc. Prof, Dr. Tran Duc Cuong – Chairman of the Vietnam Association of Science, History, historian Le Van Lan – Vice Chairman of the Scientific Council of the Hung Temple Historic Site, and a fan maker. Lan Tuyet tradition with a large number of guests to attend.

Rituals of the Royal Palace on Dragon Boat Festival

The rituals of the royal palace during the Lunar New Year of the Le Dynasty for the first time were systematically, vividly and truthfully explained by the exhibition center through a system of panels, paintings, especially space simulations. The royal court was quiet and respectful, the heavenly son majestically sat on the throne of the dragon, set the court, wrote poetry on the fan and handed out rewards to the mandarins. In addition, the ritual of offering, offering incense to the ancestors, and the ceremony of giving fans are still maintained and reproduced by the Thang Long – Hanoi Heritage Conservation Center. These are two of the four important Doan Ngo rituals of the court during the Le Trung Hung period.

Coming to the program, visitors also heard colorful cultural stories about the custom of “killing insects” of culinary artisan Anh Tuyet. The secrets of fan making are attractive, skillful and delicate by artisan Lan Tuyet.
