On the occasion of the 50th anniversary of the implementation of the World Heritage Convention (1972-2022), in order to summarize the results of 20 years of research, excavation and discovery of the Imperial Citadel of Thang Long – Hanoi (2002-2022), the The Hanoi People’s Committee in collaboration with the UNESCO Representative Office in Hanoi and the Vietnam Historical Science Association organized an international scientific conference with the theme “20 years of research, conservation and promotion of cultural values Imperial Citadel of Thang Long – Hanoi”.

1. Purpose of the workshop

50th anniversary of the World Heritage Convention (1972-2022), in order to promote the implementation of the World Heritage Committee’s recommendations in scientific and archaeological research for effective management Heritage Area; at the same time, completing the Heritage Management Plan for the period of 2022-2030, with a vision to 2045, and synthesizing the results of 20 years of research, excavation and discovery of the Imperial Citadel of Thang Long – Hanoi (2002-2022), the City People’s Committee Hanoi in collaboration with UNESCO Representative Office in Hanoi, Vietnam Historical Science Association organized an international scientific conference “20 years of research, conservation and promotion of the value of the Imperial Citadel of Thang Long – Ha Noi”.

The conference is an opportunity to summarize outstanding achievements in the management, research, conservation and promotion of values ​​in the Imperial Citadel of Thang Long – Hanoi from 2002 to present, especially introducing the results of mining activities. Archaeological excavation for 10 years at Kinh Thien main hall area; at the same time, it will help those who do research, conservation and promotion of national and international heritage have the opportunity to exchange, learn experiences, do comparative research… in the work of restoring palaces; scientific consultation on orientation for research, conservation and promotion of the values ​​of the World Heritage Center of the Imperial Citadel of Thang Long – Hanoi; promoting activities to promote cultural values ​​of Thang Long – Hanoi, Vietnam to spread domestically and internationally. This is also an opportunity to promote the image of the Heritage Center of the Imperial Citadel of Thang Long – Hanoi, a must-see destination of tourism in the capital, a historical and cultural park in the future.

Attending the workshop were representatives of ministries/sectors of central agencies, Hanoi city, Ba Dinh, Hoan Kiem districts…Research institutes, universities in Hanoi, museums. , World Heritage Sites of Vietnam and many scientists in the fields of History, Archeology, Architecture, Han Nom, Culture, Fine Arts, Conservation, Museum, Heritage… of Vietnam. South and international such as France, Japan, Korea, Italy… especially the presence of the representative of the World Heritage Center; former President of the International Association of Museums ICOM; Director of the International Council of Monuments and Sites ICOMOS.

The content of the conference focused on two main topics:
