The Nguyen Lords had great merits in the development history of the Vietnamese nation when they gradually reclaimed land from the south to present-day Ca Mau. At that time, people lived in affluence and happiness. However, in the reign of Lord Nguyen Phuc Khoat, the courtiers of Truong Phuc Loan were despotic, making people complain. Living in that scene, the Tay Son uprising led by three brothers Nguyen Nhac, Nguyen Hue and Nguyen Lu was responded by people everywhere. In 1777, Tay Son troops captured Gia Dinh and killed Nguyen Phuc Duong (who was supported by Tay Son’s slogan), Nguyen Phuc Thuan, and Nguyen Phuc Anh’s royal brothers and sisters were all killed. Particularly, Nguyen Anh was only 15 years old that year, fortunately escaped from the accident.

After that, Nguyen Anh ran into Ha Tien with the help of bishop Bishop Ba Da Loc. During a quarter of a century, Nguyen Anh had to wander everywhere to avoid the pursuit of the Tay Son army. In 1802, Nguyen Anh ascended the throne, chose Phu Xuan as Kinh Do, set the era name Gia Long and began the cruel revenge of the Tay Son dynasty.

Quang Toan was torn to pieces by an elephant, his head was put in a jar and imprisoned. The Tay Son mausoleum was uprooted. King Quang Trung’s skull was chained and locked in a dungeon.
