The Thang Long – Hanoi Heritage Conservation Center announced that from January 1, 2025, visitors can visit and take photos at the Hanoi Flag Tower area. On the first morning of the year, many locals and tourists were present to admire this historical relic, however, they are currently only allowed to visit and take photos at the foot of the Flag Tower.

The Hanoi Flag Tower, also known as the Hanoi Ky Dai, was built in the 19th century on the land of the Tam Mon citadel of the Le Dynasty, part of the Thang Long Imperial Citadel. After more than 200 years, the Flag Tower still stands as a “historical witness”, symbolizing the resilient and indomitable spirit of the people of the capital in the resistance war against the French.

With its ancient, quiet and time-worn architecture, the Hanoi Flag Tower is located at 28A Dien Bien Phu Street, Ba Dinh District. Previously, this relic belonged to the premises of the Vietnam Military History Museum. On December 25, the Museum handed over the entire site, including the Hanoi Flag Tower, to the Thang Long – Hanoi Heritage Conservation Center for management.

The plan to open the Flagpole for visitors was implemented after receiving the handover from the Vietnam Military History Museum. However, due to the security system and some items inside the Flagpole need to be reviewed, evaluated and preserved. In addition, many items have degraded and need to be restored and re-evaluated for safety before welcoming visitors, the inner area is temporarily closed to ensure the safety of visitors. For now, visitors can visit and take photos at the outside area and the foot of the Flagpole. In the coming time, the Center will implement conservation measures, apply technology to improve management quality and create safe and attractive experience products.

Opening the Flagpole Hanoi not only creates conditions for the public to access an important historical symbol but also contributes to honoring the cultural heritage value of the capital.

Hanoi Flag Tower is not only a destination of historical significance but also a place to help today’s and future generations better understand the cultural and traditional values of the country. Visitors to the Flag Tower will have the opportunity to explore one of the most special relics of the capital, a place that preserves the heroic spirit of the nation.
