Traditional ceremony
Lunar New Year is associated with many traditional rituals, bearing the mark of spiritual culture and traditional customs. Some typical traditional rituals during Lunar New Year at Thang Long Imperial Citadel include:
The Tet pole-raising ceremony: One of the special activities at Thang Long Imperial Citadel during Tet is the pole-raising ceremony. This is a traditional ritual from ancient times, symbolizing the connection between humans and the divine world, with the meaning of exorcising evil spirits, praying for luck and peace in the new year. The tall pole, decorated with flags, streamers and hanging blessing items, creates a solemn, ancient scene, bringing a warm Tet atmosphere.
Incense offering ceremony in memory of 52 former emperors: This ceremony is not only a prayer for national peace and prosperity, but also shows deep gratitude to the kings who built and defended the country. Visitors will feel the solemnity and sacredness of the cultural space here, where national pride and love for the country are strongly aroused.
Traditional cultural and artistic performances: Special performances recreating the ancient Tet cultural space such as lion dance, drum dance, etc. bring viewers the feeling of returning to their roots, to the Tet of their ancestors.
Exhibition space
In the vast space of Thang Long Imperial Citadel, exhibition areas on traditional Tet customs are also organized. Here, visitors will be able to admire fruit trays, red parallel sentences, and green Chung cakes – familiar images associated with Vietnamese Tet. At the same time, activities such as making Chung cakes, writing calligraphy, and wrapping Tet gifts also help participants gain more understanding and attachment to traditional culture.
