After the Geneva Agreement (July 1954), our country was divided, communication between the revolutionaries of the two regions was extremely difficult through the only communication line in western Quang Tri controlled by the 5th Inter-Regional Party Committee. blame. However, this route cannot meet the requirement of large human and material resources for the Southern battlefield in the context of the growing resistance war.

To maintain communication and ensure timely direction from the Party Central Committee for the Southern revolutionary movement, Resolution of the 15th Central Conference (January 1959) of the Party set out the task of opening the way to provide aid to the region. Group 559 was established on May 19, 1959 and was selected as a “special military mission” to deploy engineering, logistics, medical, infantry and air defense forces to ensure the operation of the route. Throughout the war, Ho Chi Minh Trail always became the focus of fierce attacks by the enemy with all kinds of modern and most advanced weapons. The US and the puppet regime launched many major campaigns with hundreds of planes spraying toxic chemicals along the transportation corridor, nearly 4 million tons of bombs and mines were thrown at Truong Son to destroy roads and destroy convoys. , destroying all life to the point that “the forests no longer have leaves, the mountains and rocks become mud”.

With the spirit of “Everything for the front line, everything to defeat the American invaders”, with the same will to “cut along the Truong Son to save the country” and the determination to “fight the enemy to advance, open the way to advance”, class after class. The forces from soldiers, youth volunteers, frontline workers, traffic workers and people of all ethnicities have always persistently and tenaciously held the battlefield, stuck to the road surface, keeping the circuit clear. The exhibition “Truong Son Road – Legendary Ho Chi Minh Road” introduces about 100 documents and images that are the most condensed content about the birth of the “Fire Line” of Truong Son Road, the strong vitality of the road through the bombs and bullets of war, it became a miracle of fighting power and victory, an outstanding success in the Party’s strategic direction, and a legend in the history of defending the country of our nation.
